No fuss… easy italian bread!
This easy italian bread was made in the bread machine. I just add the ingredients and hit the dough cycle, then walk away. Let the machine do the work for you. It will mix the ingredients, knead the dough and allow the dough to rise. After the cycle is finished, punch dough down and form into a loaf, rise again and then bake. Fresh, homemade easy italian bread.

Easy italian bread is great for your next dinner!
I made this bread to go with our dinner. I made a venison strognaff and it was so good! I didn’t get any pictures of the meal because we ate it all. I did save a loaf of easy italian bread and took some pictures. This bread was great with butter added, at dinner time. It also makes for good toast in the morning. Slice it up, toast it, add butter and jam.
I made two smaller loaves, from this recipe. I wanted them to fit on my pizza stone, while baking. Feel free to shape into one large loaf, just make sure you have a pan it will fit on.
Easily, slices into individual pieces. But you’ll be coming back for seconds!
Easy Italian Bread
- 1 1/4 cups warm water (110F degrees)
- 1 Tablespoon brown sugar
- 2 1/2 teaspoons active dry yeast
- 2 Tablespoons vegetable oil
- 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
- 1 egg
- 3 1/2 – 4 cups flour
STEP ONE: Save about 1/2 cup of flour. Place the remaining ingredients into bread machine. Turn on dough setting/cycle, allow machine to mix and combine ingredients. If dough appears sticky after all the ingredients have been mixed, add the 1/2 cup of flour. Dough should not be sticky and wet. Allow the bread machine to finish cycle.
STEP TWO: Once dough cycle is complete, turn off machine. Punch down dough and flour your work surface with flour. Roll out dough into roughly about 15 inch by 8 inch rectangle. Starting from the long end (close to you), start rolling into a log. You can leave the log alone and set on a non-stick baking sheet. Or, cut in half and have two smaller loaves. Set your dough log or logs onto a non-stick baking sheet and allow to rise for 30 minutes.
STEP THREE: Preheat oven to 350 F degrees. Bake for 25 minutes. Remove from oven and slather on butter or margarine over the top (this will help brown the outside of your italian bread and make a nice crunch). Place back in the oven and bake another 20 – 40 minutes. For a light crust, like in the pictures, bake for 20 minutes. If you want a darker crust bake for the 40 minutes, or longer. Allow to cool.
