These easy roll out sugar cookies are full of flavor and perfect for decorating.
Landon’s kindergarten teacher, sent an email, asking if I would be interested in baking undecorated sugar cookies for the class. I was happy to bake cookies for the kids in Landon’s kindergarten class! These easy roll out sugar cookies are perfect for decorating. They hold their shape and taste really good. Landon tasted one and couldn’t stop saying, “Mmm… this is so good!” That was without any type of frosting on top!
They do taste delicious! With lots of vanilla extract in this recipe and corn starch added to keep them soft on the inside. These easy roll out sugar cookies are great to work with. The dough gets chilled in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes. Roll out the dough on floured surface, cut out shapes and place on cookie sheet. I placed the cookie cut outs on the cookie sheet and into the freezer for 15 – 20 minutes, before baking. Freezing the cookie cut outs, really helps keep their shape. These are nice and thick sugar cookies, try not to roll them too thin.

Easy Roll Out Sugar Cookies
- 1 cup butter flavor Crisco
- 1 1/4 cup sugar
- 2 eggs
- 1 Tablespoon vanilla
- 1 teaspoon corn starch
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- pinch of salt
- 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
STEP ONE: Cream together the crisco and sugar. Once creamed, add the eggs and vanilla, mix well. Add the remaining ingredients: corn starch, baking powder, salt and flour. Mix until everything is fully combined. Cover the mixing bowl and place in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes.
STEP TWO: Once dough has chilled, flour your work surface and rolling pin. Have cookie sheets lined with parchment paper or nonstick cooking mat, ready and in reach. Grab the chilled dough and place on floured area, start to roll out dough to a high 1/4 inch thickness. Cut out cookie shapes and carefully, place on lined cookie sheets. Place cookie cut outs in the freezer for 15 -20 minutes.
STEP THREE: While the cookie cut outs are in freezer, preheat the oven to 375F degrees. Remove the freeze chilled cookie cut outs and bake for 11-12 minutes, on middle or top oven rack. The bottoms should be lightly golden and the tops will be a pale color ( You may think they aren’t done yet, don’t over bake. Or they will become hard, once fully cooled.) Allow the pan to cool to the touch, before removing cookies to a wire rack. Allow cookies to rest and fully cool, over night on the wire racks. Cover them with paper towels. This makes sure they will be sturdy and keep their shape for decorating and storage. The cookies should be firm but have a soft break and texture on the inside.
STEP FOUR: Decorate as desired. Enjoy!
