Lemon Sugar

Such a simple way to get the most out of your lemons. Just remember to zest the lemons before slicing. You can use a cheese grater (use the fine grating section) to remove the lemon zest. Try not to grate the white pith layer, which is bitter. A sharp vegetable peeler may also be used. Another method, is to use a very sharp pairing knife and carefully remove pieces of the zest. Once you have removed most of the zest on the lemon, you can finely chop it.

The oils from the lemon zest soak right into the sugar. Which adds such a great taste to the sugar. It smells Amazing!

Here are some ways to use lemon sugar:

Pour the lemon sugar into a shallow dish. Use lemon/lime wedge to moisten the rim of a glass. Dip the moistened rim into lemon sugar mixture. Great for lemonade, iced tea, margaritas, or any adult cocktail.

Mix into hot tea, or warm lemon water.

Add it in baking recipes, for a hint of lemon flavor.

Use this mixture to roll sugar cookie dough in, to change things up a little.

How about a gift idea – place in a jar, add a ribbon, and a special handwritten note.

You could also pamper yourself and use as an all natural exfoliating scrub.

That’s a great idea! Lemon Sugar will be the best solution for drinks in winter (as you said, for tea or fruit…), when you want a moderately sweet and lemon-scented drinks.

But how long can we use the lemon sugar, Vanessa? My mother usually drink hot tea and I want to make some bottles of lemon sugar for her.

Hope to see your answer soon, and thank you so much for sharing the recipe. It is really helpful to me.

      Hi Sabrina!

I would say 1-2 months in the pantry, as dry storage. And up to 5-6 months in the refrigerator.
I have a bottle of this in my refrigerator right now, and it’s been 3 months. I opened the bottle and gave it a good stir – it smells amazing!

Use your own judgment, if it starts to smell and taste sour then toss it out.

Thanks for stopping by and Happy Baking!
