Pumpkin Bone Broth Dog Treats

Your special four-legged friend will receive many health benefits from these homemade dog treats. Each treat contains some fiber, vitamins (A & C), minerals (calcium, magnesium), and joint health. These were a big hit with our two dogs, “Duke the Mutt & Pepper the Yorkie.”

Easily made with 4 ingredients: bone broth, bone broth fat (vegetable shortening can be substituted), pumpkin puree, and flour.

If you make your own bone broth, you’ll have access to bone broth fat. Bone broth fat is the fatty layer that forms on the top of the bone broth after it’s been simmering for hours. Many people discard this layer, but I didn’t want to waste it. So I started using it for dog treats. This fat helps to give the treats their crunch, which dogs love. Bone broth can also be purchased online, or in grocery stores. Next time you pour yourself a cup of broth, be sure to share some to make dog treats.

  • 1/2 cup bone broth
  • 1/3 cup bone broth fat (vegetable shortening can be substituted)
  • 1/2 cup pumpkin puree
  • 2 1/2 cup all-purpose flour

Step One: Preheat oven to 350 F degrees.

Step Two: Combine the bone broth and bone broth fat (or shortening) in a microwave safe bowl. Heat in the microwave for 45 seconds, or until it reaches a liquid consistency. Stir in the pumpkin puree. Add in the flour, and stir until a dough begins to form. Use your hands to knead the dough together.

Step Three: Sprinkle flour on the counter and roll the dough out to about 1/4 inch thickness. Cut out treats and bake in the preheated oven for 40 minutes. Cool completely before giving to your dog.
